About Parkers Creek Natural Environmental Area

Parkers Creek Natural Environmental Area is located on the Western Shore of Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay, covering extensive acreage that protects critical ecosystems such as tidal freshwater wetlands, mature forests, and riparian corridors. This area preserves one of the few relatively undisturbed tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay, offering a refuge for native flora and fauna. The landscape features winding tidal creeks, oxbow wetlands, and expansive marshlands, which serve as critical habitats for fish, migratory birds, and various other wildlife species. Established to maintain water quality and natural habitat integrity, Parkers Creek supports several rare and sensitive plants and animals. Visitors can enjoy over 8 miles of trails that traverse forested ridges and lowland wetlands, providing scenic views and opportunities for birdwatching, photography, and nature study. Historically, the land was used for agriculture and timber harvesting before being acquired for conservation. Its undeveloped shoreline and protected habitats contribute to the health of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and offer a peaceful outdoor experience. The area’s trail system is accessible to hikers and families, with interpretive signage highlighting local ecology and conservation efforts. Parkers Creek attracts naturalists, anglers, and paddlers interested in exploring its quiet creeks and inlets, making it a valuable resource for passive recreation and environmental education.
